prizegiving ceremony for each graduating year and it is normally held on
graduation day in the February of the following year. The staff in the
Department of Information Studies keep a close eye on your work throughout the
year and suspect it may come as a surprise to some when they are contacted to
advise them of their success for an award. <o:p></o:p></p>

Information Assn (ALIA) Prize</b> for the best written work on a libraries

<p class=MsoNormal style='text-autospace:none'><b>Australian Society of Archivists
(ASA): Margaret Jennings Award</b> – “<span lang=EN>This annual award was
instituted in 1989 as the Australian Society of Archivists Inc Award for
students completing a diploma course in archives administration in the previous
year. The award recognises academic achievement during the course. It was
renamed the Margaret Jennings Award in 1997.” <a

to the best undergraduate student who has completed at least 80% of their

<p class=MsoNormal style='text-autospace:none'><b>Information Studies chapter
of Curtin Alumni Prize</b>: graduate who achieves a first professional
qualification in Information Studies with academic excellence over the duration

<p class=MsoNormal style='text-autospace:none'><b>ALIA ARL(WA) (DA Books
Prize):</b> The Academic & Research Libraries (ARL)-DA prize is a
book voucher to the value of $150 from DA Information Services, to be presented
to one student from each institution. It is for an essay presentation
with a research component, undertaken as part of course work at final year
undergraduate or graduate diploma level at Curtin. <i><o:p></o:p></i></p>

<p class=MsoNormal style='text-autospace:none'>Award expectation: Presentation:
The award to be presented at the first ARL function of the year. The student
work to be presented either by the student or a proxy or video. Presentations
of 10 minutes with 5 minutes for questions<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal style='text-autospace:none'><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal style='text-autospace:none'>Judging: Academic staff from the
participating institution selects a winner and notify ARL. The student must be
studying library units at a WA Institution.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal style='text-autospace:none'><span style='font-size:10.0pt;
font-family:"Courier New"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class=MsoNormal style='text-autospace:none'><b>ALIA Academic and Research
Libraries (ARL) WA<span style='color:#1F497D'> </span>- Blackwells Practicum
Prize. $100. </b>For the top (i.e. notable achievement) student in a practicum
placement undertaken at a university or research institution. This prize is not
awarded every year. Commenced 2006 and awarded alternately between ECU
and Curtin (Curtin had the prize in 2008). <i>Not Curtin in 2009 </i><i><span
style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"'><o:p></o:p></span></i></p>

Certificate of Recognition</b> in appreciation of services to Information

<p class=MsoNormal><b>Brenda Freeman Award</b> (Awarded by the
Information Studies Student Association) The Brenda Freeman Memorial prize is
presented “to the student who has done the most for the welfare of students in
the Department”. Candidates must be nominated by another student.
The winner is then decided by the Executive of ADLIBS after examination of all
nominations” (Adlibs Exclusive, Feb 1998, v. 4 (2), p. 4.). <o:p></o:p></p>
