Dear WA students

Please see below or the following link for information on the FA Sharr Award<https://www.alia.org.au/about-alia/awards-and-grants/355/f-sharr-award>.

Please be aware that changes have been made to the nomination process and colleagues, peers, mentors and supervisors can now nominate an individual they believe to be a worthy recipient of the award. If someone is nominated in this way they will be contacted by the ALIAWest committee and invited to then follow the self-nomination process.

The Libraries, Archives, Records and Information Science (LARIS) Team encourages eligible applicants to apply. Our Discipline Lead, Paul Genoni, welcomes you to contact LARIS staff if you need assistance or advice with an application.

Recent recipients of this prestigious award include Curtin grads Sophie Farrar (2016) and Chloe Czerwiec (2015).

Good luck!

Kind regards
Bec

Subject: [WAIN] 2017 F A Sharr Award nominations open

Nominations are now open for the 2017 F A Sharr Award.

The F A Sharr Award is named after Francis Aubie (Ali) Sharr, State Librarian in Western Australia from 1953 to 1976, in recognition of his contribution to libraries and librarianship in Western Australia and to the profession more broadly.

The award was inaugurated in 1976 when the F A Sharr Medal was presented to late Mrs Jean Ryding, a Western Australian student of librarianship. The award is now presented to a Western Australian librarian or library technician within their first three years following graduation, who exhibits the most potential to make a significant contribution to the library profession in WA.

To be eligible for the award the nominees must be:

  * A current Western Australian resident, having graduated from an ALIA accredited course in the last three years. The 2017 award is open to those who graduated after January 2015.
  * An Associate (personal) member of ALIA.

The winner receives a $500 bursary to be spent on professional development activities of their choice.

There are two nomination options.

Option 1: Self-nomination

Option 2: Nomination by a colleague

Option 1: Self-nomination

Self-nominations must include:

  * Nominee details, including a current curriculum vitae
  * Statement addressing the award selection criteria
  *   Details of two referees
  * ALIA Associate (personal) membership number
  * Certificate of completion of library and information studies or library technician course

Please submit your nomination to aliainwa at gmail.com<mailto:aliainwa at gmail.com> or contact the Committee if you require further information about the F A Sharr Award. Nominations close on Friday 6 April 2018.

Option 2: Nomination by a colleague

Colleagues, peers, mentors, and supervisors are now encouraged to nominate an individual whom they believe would be a worthy recipient of the award.

  * If you would like to nominate an individual for the F A Sharr Award, please complete the online nomination form<https://goo.gl/forms/h2ruhusJVwYaHWQ52> by Friday 16 March 2018.

Nominees will be contacted by ALIAWest and invited to complete the self-nomination process outlined above.
