Dear students

This is FYI as I am aware that library 'space' has been and continues to be high on the agenda. Check out what is happening at SLWA.

Kind regards
Bec

State Library launches Studio 001, co-working space for creatives and entrepreneurs

The State Library is set to contribute to Perth's thriving start-up scene with its own co-working space for entrepreneurs and creative thinkers. Taking its name from the Dewey decimal classification for knowledge, Studio 001 offers a fully equipped office space for individuals and teams to get their business ideas, plans and projects off the ground.

Situated on level one of the State Library of Western Australia in the heart of the Perth Cultural Centre, Studio 001 provides the following resources:

  *   Free WIFI
  * 10+ individual workspaces with flexible arrangement
  * Adobe Creative Cloud and digital display tools
  * Printing, scanning and photocopying facilities
  * Whiteboard and digital presentation monitor
  * Access to the State Library collections and services
  * Discounted venue hire at the State Library

Nathan Reed is currently using Studio 001 to develop an online multiplayer scrabble game, https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/Ld1wBRhzYG84Ud?domain=babbl.xyz<https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/GN1YBbUmdv6giR?domain=babbl.xyz>. Nathan commented that the space provided, services and central location were perfect for his software development needs.

Other start-ups using Studio 001 are Wiki Club West, the Western Australian branch of charitable education organisation Wikimedia, and AARLI Fashion, an Indigenous fashion label supporting ethical and sustainable clothing.

Studio 001 demonstrates innovation in library services for the community. As libraries morph from shelves of books to providers of information and places which cultivate creative ideas, this initiative demonstrates how a library can fill a community need by providing access to services and facilities.

"Studio 001 is a launch pad for Western Australian ideas, projects and businesses" said Margaret Allen, CEO and State Librarian.

Studio 001 is now taking bookings from individuals and groups interested in developing their creative projects in a collaborative environment.
