Hi all,
Please see the information below about the Diversity Scholarship to attend the upcoming VALA: Libraries, Technologies and the Future conference in Melbourne in February.
This is the premiere library technology conference in Australia, with quite a thorough peer-review of all papers, and happens only every second year.
They also generally have student rates to attend (here: https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/q0YwBJT8EeOvT9?domain=vala.org.au ) and I would heartily recommend that you consider this while you are still studying.

ANNOUNCING THE VALA2018 DIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS
Applications are invited for the VALA2018 Diversity Scholarships. Introduced in 2017, these Scholarships will fund up to three individual’s to attend VALA2018, at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, in Melbourne, Australia, from 13 - 15 February 2018.
The VALA Biennial Conference has grown into the largest fully peer-reviewed library technology conference in Australia and is widely recognised as the premier event of its type within this region. It attracts speakers, delegates and suppliers from across Australia, New Zealand, Asia, and beyond.
ADDRESSING BARRIERS TO PARTICIPATION
VALA recognises that regional, rural and indigenous members of the Library community face additional barriers to participation in both library and technical events. The Diversity Scholarship is offered to individuals who in normal circumstances would not generally attend this type of event or would struggle to attend due to financial or other hardship.
The first VALA Diversity Scholarship, sponsored by Linux Australia, was awarded in July at the 2017 Tech Camp to Nathan Sentance, a proud Wiradjuri man who works for the Australian Museum as a Project Officer for Cultural Programs.
[athan Sentance with Kathy Reid from Linux Australia]In Nathan's own words:
"Winning the VALA/Linux Diversity Scholarship and attending VALA Tech Camp was an invaluable experience for my career....information technology presents exciting opportunities for Aboriginal communities to access, revitalise and disseminate our culture and knowledge....the most valuable experiences I can take away from VALA Tech Camp was the people I met during it....all willing to share their passion and knowledge".
