Archives Specialist - 3 year contract - Broken Hill

We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and creative Archives Specialist to work in Broken Hill on a project to capture the essence of Australia’s First National Listed Heritage City and transform it to compete on a world stage. The overall strategy calls for protection and re-purpose through dynamic urban design, activation, bold digital and site specific interpretation, technology, art, events and enterprise. The aim of the position is to deliver an ongoing legacy that impacts the local wellbeing and job creation, whilst contributing to the broader economic future of the city.

The Archives Specialist will oversee the archives project deliverables and facilitate their expansion as a nexus for heritage through:

·         Working with collections of untapped potential to manage immediate issues and facilitate long term opportunities

·         Planning and overseeing safe relocation of archives from their current home to a secure storage

·         Setting up planning and policy frameworks for sustainable continuation of the archives

·         Initiating a program of curation, exhibition management and archival digitisation including developing an online museum, collections management database and web component

Requirements:

·         Relevant tertiaryqualificationsin ArchivesAdministrationorequivalentandcertificationsin areas suchasmanualhandling

·         Relevant experience in a similar role/setting with demonstrated engagement of innovation in archival practice

·         Experience in leading programs of work and  in overseeing staff/volunteers across multiple, complex projects

·         Experienceworkingacrossdiversecollectionscomprisingarchivalmaterials

§  paper-based

§  photographic

§  audio

§  digitalandmovingimages

§  museumobjectsandworksofart acrossa range of media

·         Experience of conservation and reprographic issues

·         StrongITskillsandtechnicalcompetenceinusingcontentmanagementsystemstomodern archivalstandards

·         Current NSW Driver’s Licence
