Knowledge Week is a celebration of Perth’s achievements in technology, education and innovation and an exploration of the City’s future as a knowledge capital. This inaugural Knowledge Week takes place in and around Perth’s new knowledge and cultural precinct: the new City of Perth Library and the State Buildings at Cathedral Square. In a rapidly changing world, the opportunities for the next generation of Western Australian innovators, creators, inventors and learners are as exciting as they are limitless. The program explores the future of education, science, technology, gaming and robotics.

During Knowledge Week, Cathedral Square will become the centre of activity for Perth’s community of innovators and future-oriented thinkers.

Join Professor Peter Quinn, Executive Director of the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research, in a discussion on the gargantuan amount of data being collected for the SKA, which is changing the way we do science. This global collaboration, headquartered in Western Australia, is sifting through data to detect faint signals from distant galaxies – ‘finding needles in a cosmic haystack,’ says Quinn. What might future economic spin-offs from such a major data-science project look like?

As part of Knowledge Week, the City of Perth Library and Boffins Books are delighted to host this evening with Richard Roxburgh to celebrate the release of his first book. Richard is one of Australia’s best-loved and most versatile actors. For his work in films like Moulin Rouge! to the lead role in television’s Rake, as well as his performances with the Sydney Theatre Company, Richard Roxburgh has become a household name.

Richard has always drawn and written stories to entertain himself, but Artie and the Grime Wave is his first book for children. Hear about the genesis and creation of this project from the author himself. This event is aimed at adults and is not suitable for children.
