Dear Colleagues,
Welcome to the first ASA WA Branch Notice for 2016
1/ ASA WA Branch Representative on State Records Advisory Committee
Recently the Deputy Representative of the ASA WA Branch on the State
Records Advisory Committee (SRAC), Margaret Paterson, has resigned
from this position. On the ASA WA Branch’s behalf I’d like to thank
Margaret for putting her hand up a few years ago to do this and for
all her work with the ASA over the years.
The State Records Commission (SRC) has written to me as Convenor of
the ASA WA Branch to find a replacement for Margaret and has asked the
ASA to submit 3 names, from which will be chosen a deputy
representative.
SRAC is a Committee of WA’s SRC. SRAC’s role is to advise the SRC
about State records that should be State archives, the retention
periods for those State records that are not to be State archives, and
associated matters. SRAC reviews Retention and Disposal Schedules and
Ad Hoc Disposal Authorities submitted by government organizations.
SRAC may also review General Disposal Authorities and Sector Disposal
Authorities produced by the State Records Office (SRO). Disposal
recommendations passed by the Committee are forwarded to the SRC for
approval. SRAC Members and deputies are appointed to the Committee for
a term of 3 years. SRAC meets 2-3 times a year.
Being a Member of SRAC would enhance professional development and be a
valuable learning experience for any Archivist. If you are interested
in this please email me at gerard.foley at sro.wa.gov.au along with a one
page resume that highlights your previous and current experience in
archives/recordkeeping work.
