The Librarian - Electronic Collections is accountable under broad direction to undertake complex library services activities. They will work within a framework of legislation, established principles, work practices and procedures in accordance with Defence's mission and business objectives. They will work independently and as part of a team, having some authority and discretion to investigate information from diverse sources and explore innovative approaches to support the longer-term business objectives.

The Librarian - Electronic Collections position leads and participates in the tendering, negotiation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of library contracts, in collaboration with Defence Library Service (DLS) work units. This position leads, and participates in, selected consortia and standing offer activities, and manages selected contracts and licenses for library goods and services. The position coordinates the selection of electronic publications and other information resources for DLS's virtual/electronic libraries, and assists in reviewing and evaluating technologies, products and services available in the marketplace for the continuous improvement of library services.
