We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Library Technician to join our friendly library team on a fixed term basis until November 2015 to cover a period of parental leave. This role will initially be on part-time basis, working 3 per week until November 2014 and will then move to a full time capacity for a period of a further 12 months.
About the role
Reporting to the Knowledge Manager, this position is primarily responsible for the technical maintenance of the library collection. This role will include duties such as serials management and current awareness circulation, legislation amendment, cataloguing, photocopying, inter-library loans, and organising book binding. A detailed job description is available upon request.
One of the important, challenging and interesting parts to this role is providing reference and research support to the lawyers in the firm.
This position involves many varied duties meaning that the working day can be very different from one day to the next.
About you
You will be a qualified Library Technician with a confident manner and the ability to interact comfortably with other staff as well as external suppliers. Applicants need to have a high level of computer literacy and adaptability in order to be able to use, and to assist others in using, online research and information databases. Applicants must also be an able learner in order to work with minimal supervision and demonstrate self-initiative.
Prior experience in law libraries or corporate business libraries will be high regarded, but not essential. Library and Information Studies student applications from students who have just completed their final year of tertiary study in this area, will be considered. Support and comprehensive training will be provided to those new to this specialist area of work. It is desired, but not essential, that applicants have experience in providing legal reference services and are familiar with legal resources, in addition to possessing a good working knowledge of the library software 'First'.
Only applicants who have successfully completed tertiary studies as a Library Technician or Librarian in the library and information studies field will be considered.
