The permanent position provides an opportunity to develop leadership and management skills as it will have responsibility for coordinating and supervising operational work in the Science Library.

ROLE STATEMENT
As the appointee you will, under limited direction, provide professional library services to library users, be assigned to a portfolio of responsibilities taken from those listed below and contribute to programmes, services and projects for Information Services as a whole.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Advise clients on identifying and using information resources
* Plan, design and deliver information literacy programmes
* Plan, design and deliver staff training programmes
* Promote information resources and services relevant to the teaching, learning and research needs of clients
* Assist with the management and development of collections including identifying, evaluating, selecting and acquiring resources
* Create, source, and maintain accurate metadata for information systems according to standards
* Assist in the modelling, allocation, and monitoring of the information resources budget
* Assist in the development, implementation, and review of standards and procedures in information acquisition and access management and keep abreast of developing standards and practices
* Coordinate and supervise the work of Library Officers including induction, training and ongoing development
* Other duties as required
SPECIFIC WORK CAPABILITIES (SELECTION CRITERIA)
* University degree
* A relevant tertiary qualification in library and information science qualification recognised for associate membership of the Australian Library and Information Association
* A demonstrated proficiency in the use of computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, email and the Internet
* Willingness to work in any library
* A demonstrated client focus and well developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to work flexibly in a rapidly changing environment including the capacity to acquire new skills and knowledge and apply them to new situations
* Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a variety of teams and to provide leadership
* Demonstrated analytical skills, the ability to think creatively and an innovative approach to service delivery and information access
* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of reference work
* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of current cataloguing and metadata standards including AACR2, LCSH, DDC
* Demonstrated skills in the evaluation, use and development of information resources
* Ability to deliver effective training
