Jackson McDonald is one of the leading commercial law firms in Western
Australia with 120 lawyers and over 225 staff in total.
We are seeking an enthusiastic Library Technician student or Librarian
student to join our friendly and experienced library team by filling the
role of Casual Library Assistant. This position involves working 8
hours per week consisting of a minimum of 4 hours per day (in accordance
with the Legal Services Award), with the flexibility to work a full 8
hour day or two 4 hour days per week Monday to Friday, and to take time
off during study and exam periods as required.
This position reports to our Knowledge Manager, and is partly supervised
by our Library Technician, completing a team of three library staff.
Position responsibilities:
- Filing new loose-leaf page updates within the library's hardcopy
publications to ensure they are up-to-date for our lawyers.
- Photocopying parts of our library collection and visiting the Supreme
Court Library of WA and State Library of WA from time-to-time to access
items in their collections.
- Collection maintenance including returning and shelving items that
were on loan.
- The opportunity to be trained in the Library Technician's duties and
trained in carrying out legal reference and research work to assist our
library team during busy periods, and to carry out relief work when
library staff are on leave.
Position requirements:
- Keen attention to detail.
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate clearly
with the library and other professional staff within our workplace.
- The ability to work independently and with initiative.
- A passion for working in libraries and furthering your library career.
No prior experience in a law firm is needed, however previous experience
working in a library will be looked upon favourably, as will an interest
in working in a law library environment.
