The Australian Library Journal has been published since 1951. Published
quarterly, it contains a wide coverage of Australian library issues
ranging from ongoing research to day-to-day news from the workplace. It
is the acknowledged flagship publication of the Australian Library and
Information Association (ALIA). Further information on the journal can
be found at http://www.alia.org.au/publishing/alj
Issue Focus
In an increasingly networked world, and an economic climate where many
libraries face resource challenges, the opportunities and need to
collaborate internationally are great. International librarianship can
be practiced by individuals, and by organisations that work across
borders to develop services. From mass digitisation projects to gaming,
innovations that make the most of resources and opportunities can be
found globally. Authors are invited to submit articles that present
examples of innovation in international librarianship with application
to the Australian or Asia-Pacific context; and articles that explore
strategies for collaborating internationally, adapting project and
research outcomes to different national or regional contexts. Papers
co-authored between different countries are encouraged. Contributors may
like to consider the following list of possible topics (please note this
is not an exhaustive list):
* Case studies of innovative library services in the Asia-Pacific
region and their application to the Australian context
* Creative cross-border collaboration, and strategies to develop
cross-border partnerships
* Libraries and development priorities in the region
* The role of national and international organisations in
supporting advocacy efforts in the current economic climate
* Developing the next generation of international professionals:
priorities for LIS curricula, development opportunities, motivating
professionals to seek international perspectives
FORMAT FOR SUBMISSION
Prospective authors should submit a 500 word abstract. The successful
authors will be invited to submit their full articles of up to 5,000
words which adhere to the style guide:
http://www.alia.org.au/publishing/alj/notes.html All articles will be
double-blind reviewed. Please submit abstracts to Fiona.bradley at ifla.org
