Dear students and all
Further to my email below, I forgot to mention that there will be a book
sale (gold coin donation) of some old and possibly historic texts in the
field of information studies. These will be available after the
breakfast in Building 209, room 346. All donations will go to the
Curtin University Department of Information Studies Alumni scholarship
fund.
Please remember to let me know if you are coming to the breakfast.

Subject: Information Studies prizewinners breakfast and booksale after
Dear students
A note to let you know that our Department holds a prizewinner event
each year and my colleagues are working with me at the moment to
determine those who will be the recipients of the 2009 prizes for the
Department of Information Studies. There are quite a few prizes (most
of which are a certificate of acknowledgement and a few of which have a
more tantalising enclosure). They include:
Australian Library and Information Assn (ALIA) Prize for the best
written work on a libraries theme.
Australian Society of Archivists (ASA): Margaret Jennings Award - for
students completing a diploma course in archives administration.
(certificate awarded though the ASA might make separate arrangements)
John Dean Award for academic excellence in an undergraduate course
GG Allen Award excellence in academic achievement in a masters by
coursework or graduate diploma course
George Buick Award academic excellence in an Information Studies higher
degree
Peter Maskell prize: to the undergraduate student who has completed at
least 80% of their course as a part time student in Information Studies
Curtin Information Studies Alumni Prize
Records Management Assn Australasia (WA Branch) prize (may also make
separate arrangements)
ALIA Academic & Research Libraries - WA (DA Books Prize) (ARL also make
separate arrangements)
Wendy Rogers Prize: student/s with most promising potential in special
librarianship.
Brenda Freeman Award (Awarded by the Information Studies Student
Association - ISSA)
We have found that a breakfast on graduation day seems to work best and
here are the details:
WHEN: Thursday 25th February 2010
AT: Ambrosia cafe, Curtin University (formerly the Kirribilli cafe)
Starting at 8 a.m.
COST: as per Ambrosia menu
PARKING: Green bays are available free of charge at this time.
I will be advising the prizewinners in a separate email once they have
been determined, but as this is a good opportunity for you to meet,
network and support your fellow students and recent graduates, I wanted
to get the details to you .
Please RSVP to me if you will be coming, by close of business Tuesday 23
February 2010.
All the best for the year ahead
Kerry
