Archivist position

State Records NSW has a vacant Archivist position.  This is a permanent
fulltime position based at the Western Sydney Records Centre at
Kingswood in
Archives Control and Management.  The position is advertised through
www.jobs.nsw.gov.au.  Information packages are available through this
website and applications are also online.

Total remuneration package $72,232. Package includes salary ($50,100 -
$65,457), employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave
loading.

NOTE: Consideration may be given to applications from graduates
undertaking
archival studies due to be completed during 2010.

State Records' holdings reflect the full range of activities of the NSW
Government from 1788 to the present, and the State archives are
documented
in accordance with the Australian Series System. We are currently
seeking an
archivist to undertake a wide range of documentation and arrangement and
description tasks (see position description for full details).

Primary purpose of position:
To ensure that State archives are adequately controlled intellectually,
physically and administratively and made accessible through arrangement,
description and registration, and through documentation of their
functional
and administrative context.

Selection criteria:

*  Tertiary qualifications acceptable for eligibility for professional
membership of the Australian Society of Archivists Inc. or equivalent
combination of qualifications and experience 

*  Knowledge of archival theory and practice particularly of archival
intellectual control systems including the series system for arrangement
and
control of records

* Knowledge of government functioning and administrative structures

* Working knowledge of electronic recordkeeping theory and practice,
practical experience with standard office computer programs/systems

* Sound oral and written communication skills

* Well-developed research and problem solving skills, ability
consistently
to maintain accuracy/attention to detail

* Capacity to work independently and as part of a team and to organise
work
and meet deadlines

* Understanding of the key principles and issues in the preservation and
handling of archival material
