Dear all
Yes, it's me again!
I am prompted to email this message once more because of the positive
reaction from my class this morning. Why? I did explain, when asked,
that ISSA is the association for currently enrolled students; an
opportunity to network, moan, laugh, help each other, and socialise. To
talk to each other about issues you might be having with your studies,
and life in general, to set up a mediation process if an issue arises
that requires it, and most importantly: to NETWORK. I see evidence of
the networking already when students who live in different states,
recognise each other's names, in my units and are happy to see a
familiar name again.
I have been encouraged that of the membership interest forms that have
tricked in since my message below, some are coming from students
outside WA. This in itself lends itself to setting up a Facebook or
some such facility, to the reincarnation of the ISSA website (and one
student has volunteered to do this).
So: LAST CALL. Please get your forms in quickly, then I can send the
email out connecting you all and you can get ISSA underway again.
With best wishes from us all at Info Studies
Kerry

Subject: [Hum-DIS] ISSA - Information Studies Student Association
Dear current students
In my letter to you earlier this year I mentioned the Information
Studies Student Association and enclosed a membership form. I have to
say that I have not been overwhelmed with applications to join. This is
a shame because such an Association is controlled and managed by you.
ISSA's vision, mission and activities, while formulated by a very
enthusiastic group of students a few years ago, have stood the test of
time:
ISSA
Our Vision: To provide the best representation of a student body at
Curtin University of Technology
Our Mission: We will provide a superior service to our members by
ensuring and furthering their common interests professionally,
academically and socially.
ISSA is the official student association of the Department of
Information Studies of the School of Media Culture & Creative Arts at
Curtin University. ISSA aims to provide a superior service to our
members by ensuring and furthering their common interests
professionally, academically and socially.
ISSA provides the following services for its members:
* Visiting speakers
* Social activities
* Academic Support
* Links with relevant industry associations & much more.
It is not the academic staff who run ISSA, it is you! So please add
your form to the few I have received already. As I said in the letter:
"Please leave your completed forms in Kerry Smith's pigeon hole on the
3rd floor in building 209. External students who wish to be involved may
post or fax in their form". External students can be involved
electronically as once ISSA is up and running, the ISSA group will
establish some form of e-communication with you. OR if you study
externally, yet live in the Perth environs and can make their meetings,
then you will be most welcome.
I attach the form for those who can't find it amongst their growing
piles of semester 1 notes and papers.
All the best in your studies with us.
Kerry
