Dear Students
This is an important email.
Are you enrolling in Information Studies 302 or 502 (Information Theory
& Research) in semester 1, 2009? YES/NO
Are you enrolled in the Masters in Information Management (MIM),
undertaking the dual qualification in
librarianship AND records management/archives, AND required to undertake
your second practicum before semester 1, 2009? YES/NO
Are you none of the above, but still need to complete a practicum before
semester 1, 2009? YES/NO
If you answered YES to ANY of the above then you are required to
undertake a three-week full-time practicum before the start of Semester
1, 2009, normally any time from mid-January to late-February 2009. It
may be possible to undertake a practicum before this time; however, the
opportunities for earlier placements are limited due to end-of-year and
Christmas-leave staffing issues in most agencies. Please contact the
Practicum coordinator as soon as possible should you have any concerns
regarding these requirements.
Information regarding the 2009 practicum placements is available at:
http://humanities.curtin.edu.au/schools/MCCA/information_studies/practic
um.cfm
At this site you will find the:
1. Practicum Manual
2. Practicum Application Form
3. Curtin Insurance Form
4. Contact Details Spreadsheet
Please read the Practicum Manual very carefully, particularly the
section on 'Procedures for Organising Placements' as this provides
detailed instructions on the application process. You must complete and
return the Practicum Application Form (including a brief CV), the
Insurance Form and the Contact Details spreadsheet. It is important that
you read all instructions carefully and complete and return all forms
correctly so as not to delay the organisation of your placement.
Incomplete or incorrect forms will be returned to you for correction,
which may mean missing out on your preferred placement venue.
Your practicum forms must be returned to me as soon as possible. The
deadline for submission is:
Friday October 31, 2008
These forms should be completed electronically and returned as email
attachments to prac.infostud at curtin.edu.au However, if this proves
difficult, returns by post or Fax will be accepted. The relevant
addresses are indicated in the signature line below.
Please note:
* The Insurance Form must be signed and therefore must be returned as a
scanned copy (if attached to an email), or by post or fax
* You must follow the correct procedure for subject lines of emails and
file names of all attachments; this is outlined in the Manual
If you wish to apply for an exemption from, or variation to, the
practicum placement based on your work experience, you must submit an
application before October 31, 2008. Please refer to the 'Exemptions and
Variations' section of the Practicum Manual for the criteria and
guidelines for applications. If applying for an exemption, you must
enrol in the relevant unit anyway as there are other coursework
requirements to complete.
If you have concerns about any aspect of your practicum application, or
are unsure whether you need to undertake a practicum, please do not
hesitate to contact me at prac.infostud at curtin.edu.au
Regards
Glenn
