Subject: NLS4 - special announcement!
Greetings all,
I trust that you have all recently had a vibrant and celebratory Library
and Information Week, in one form or another.
But we have oh so much more to celebrate, for just around the corner, we
have a multitude of exciting announcements to make, to coincide with the
opening of registrations for the 4th ALIA New Librarian's Symposium.
We were literally inundated with abstracts for consideration for the
program, and the committee has been (and still is) deliberating over the
final line-up for our program, which will be announced shortly. Thank
you to all of you, for making this task so difficult for us - it's going
to be a truly fantastic program. But that's not the point of this email.
We're also in the process of finalising a number of very exciting and
inspiring keynote speakers, who shall be revealed shortly. However,
that's not the point of this email.
The point of this email is to announce what is arguably the highlight of
every conference event - an opportunity to spend hours networking,
schmoozing potential employers, or for busting a move on the dance
floor, and thus defying all the myths of librarian stereotypes. That's
right, I'm talking about the conference dinner!
Now, you may remember the fabulous NLS2006 dinner at the Randwick
Racecourse. Well, we couldn't resist the temptation to rise to the
challenge of out-doing our Sydney colleagues (in a purely friendly
interstate rivalry fashion), because we're in Melbourne, and being the
sports capital of Australia, we have a reputation to uphold. So, I am
incredibly excited to announce that the NLS4 conference dinner will be
held at....
THE MELBOURNE CRICKET GROUND!
That's right, the MCG, or the 'G' for those of you who prefer to use
monosyllabic words. This venue is one of most iconic of Melbourne's many
sports locations, , and is also perfectly suited for classy receptions
and dinner events. Located on the edge of Melbourne's CBD, near the
banks of the Yarra River, the MCG is a short tram ride from the
conference venue, and is indeed the only venue in Melbourne that cab
drivers know how to get to without needing directions, so you're
guaranteed to get there on time!
Whatever your code of football may be, the NLS4 dinner will prove to be
an amazing way to see out the symposium, right up until that final siren
blows!
Mark Saturday Night, 6th December as the date for your Melbourne
experience at the "G".
So if you haven't yet considered coming to NLS4, start thinking about it
right now! Registration opens shortly, and we'll be sure to let you know
when it does!
