Presenting to an audience event

Presenting to an audience can be a challenging experience, so the ALIA
New Graduates Group in Victoria is hosting an event on the topic. If
you are going to be a (first-time) presenter at the New Librarian’s
Symposium, or are a student preparing for the next presentation to your
class, or you just want to sharpen your skills by learning some new tips
and strategies, then come along to hear from two people in the know who
are ready and willing to share their insight and experiences with us!

Tania Barry started her career in libraries as a part time shelver,
which led to employment as a part time circulation officer at Wyndham
Library. Whilst working part time at Wyndham, she also worked as a
cataloguer at a local primary school, as the Werribee/Wyndham Heritage
Project Officer and as a Community Links Project Officer, building
sustainable links between the community, local businesses and three
disadvantaged schools. In 2004 Tania commenced full time employment at
Wyndham Library as the Children’s and Youth Services Librarian, where
she has played a pivotal role in developing partnerships with community
groups. She graduated with a BA in Library and Information Science from
Charles Sturt University in 2006. She has since been appointed
Children’s and Youth Library Services Coordinator, managing the
Children’s and Youth Services department at Wyndham Library. She was
the recipient of the 2006 ALIA Metcalfe Award and the 2007 inaugural
ALIA Aurora Leadership Scholarship. She presented at the last NLS in
Sydney, but her very 'first time' was at the National Library and
Information Technicians Conference in 2005. Tania is also the Convenor
of the 4th ALIA New Librarians Symposium.

Julia Leong recently joined RMIT University Library, and is currently
acting as Staff Development Librarian. She has worked in a number of
tertiary and special libraries, most recently as Information Services
Librarian at the University of New England. Julia presented a workshop
at the Library Technicians Conference in 2003 and conference papers at
RAISS 2001, Library and Information Technicians Conference in 2005 and
at a Hong Kong conference on change management in academic libraries in
2007.

There will be time after the presentations to ask questions or clarify
issues.

A representative from the NLS4 Committee will also tantalise us with
more NLS news and festivities, set to take place in December in
Melbourne .

So, join us on Tuesday 05 August, at the RMIT Swanston Library in
