MEET THE ARCHIVISTS!

The NSW Branch of the Australian Society of Archivists would like to
invite all current and recent distance-learning students who are
studying archives & records management to attend our next Branch meeting
on Wednesday, 16th April, 2008.=20

You do not need to be an ASA member to come along to this meeting.=20

The meeting will be held at State Records (Sydney Records Centre), 2
Globe Street, The Rocks, Sydney, commencing at 5.30pm for refreshments
(wine, soft drinks, nibbles), prior to a 6.00pm start. We usually finish
up at about 7.30pm.=20

The primary purpose of the meeting is to introduce you, the students, to
the members of the NSW Branch of the ASA, and to discuss how we can
assist you with networking and professional development opportunities.=20

This will be a chance for you to meet each other. For those of you who
are as yet only names on an email network, this is a chance to meet in
person!=20

Initially, we will ask you, the students, to introduce yourselves to the
meeting, and to give us a brief rundown of why you decided to study in
this field, where you are studying and at what level, how you are
finding your course, how the course is meeting your needs, what your
interests are, and where you hope to work once you graduate.=20

We will also be asking recent graduate Richard Lehane to talk about his
experience of doing his archival training in the UK (Master of Archives
& Records Management, at the Centre for Archive Studies at the
University of Liverpool: LUCAS) and subsequently working in Australia.=20

In addition, we will be happy to provide answers to any questions
students may wish to send in beforehand. For instance, are there any
questions you have been wanting to ask an experienced archivist? Such
as: employment opportunities, volunteer opportunities, part-time or
casual work, job remuneration, archival specialization, mentoring,
career paths, the differences between large and small archival
institutions, and so on. We can select suitable experienced archivists
to answer your questions at the meeting.=20

The meeting will also provide an opportunity for us to find out more
about what the students want or need, such as mentoring, access to
professional literature, or fieldwork placements.=20

In addition, some of the ASA members at the meeting could turn out to be
your future employers!=20

If you are planning to attend the meeting (or if you wish to offer your
apologies), please RSVP by Wednesday 9th April 2008 to: Chloe
Brookes-Kenworthy, Branch Secretary
Email: chloe.brookes-kenworthy at lands.nsw.gov.au=20

If you wish to send in a question to be answered at the meeting, please
include it in your RSVP advice.=20

We look forward to meeting you!=20

Louise Trott, ASA NSW Branch Convenor 2007-2008=20
