Full-time permanent Library Technician position available
Jackson McDonald is a large commercial law firm in Western Australia
with 28 Partners, over 100 lawyers and 180 staff in total.
We are seeking an enthusiastic qualified person to fill the permanent
role of full-time Library Technician, working within a friendly library
team of three staff, and along side three legal precedent staff.
Prior experience in law libraries or corporate business libraries is
preferred, but not essential. Library and Information Studies Library
Technician applications, from students who have just completed their
final year of study in this area, will be considered. Support and
training will be provided to those new to this specialist area of work.
Reporting to the Knowledge Manager, this position is primarily
responsible for the technical maintenance of the library collection.
One of the important and interesting parts to this role is providing
reference and research support to the lawyers in the firm.
This role also includes duties such as serials management and current
awareness circulation, legislation amendment, cataloguing, photocopying,
inter-library loans, organising book binding, and updating library
Intranet content. A detailed duties list can be sent to potential
applicants on request.
Working in this position involves many varied duties which means that
the working day can be very different from one day to the next, and is
unlikely to be routine.
Applicants must have a confident manner with the ability to interact
comfortably with other staff as well as with external suppliers.
Applicants need to have a high level of computer literacy and
adaptability in order to be able to use, and to assist others in using,
online research and information databases. Applicants must also be an
able learner in order to work with minimal supervision and demonstrate
self initiative.
It is desired, but not essential, that applicants have experience in
providing legal reference services and are familiar with legal
resources, in addition to possessing a good working knowledge of the
library software DB/TextWorks.
It is preferable that applications are received by 5.00 pm on Monday
15th December.
