Subject: [WAIN] Registration New Norcia Library Lecture 2008
You are warmly invited to register for the 2008 New Norcia Library
Lecture on Friday September 5. Our theme is special collections, and we
have expert speakers, including two from London.
Giles Mandelbrote, our key speaker, is responsible for the 15th to 18th
century collection in the British Library. His lecture "Building the
British Library: selecting early printed books for a national
collection" will reflect both his experience in purchasing for that
collection, and his extensive research into the history of the book
trade.
Julianne Simpson is from London's Wellcome Library which has a massive
and eclectic collection of the history and culture of medicine.
Grant Stone is Manager of Scholarly Resources at Murdoch University, and
is responsible for the development of research and special collections.
He will speak about the problems of reconciling special collections and
collection consolidation.
Barbara Patison, Collections manager at the State Library of WA, will
speak about the collection of heritage materials, including the
purchasing process.
The cost is $77 for adults, and $30 for students. For this, you can hear
excellent speakers, contribute in the discussion session, network with
colleagues from across the library spectrum, eat a delicious morning tea
and lunch, and have free entry to the New Norcia Museum and Art Gallery.
This enjoyable day provides professional development at a very
affordable price.
Registration with morning tea is at 10 am and proceedings end at 3 pm.
Registration and payment by August 30 are essential to facilitate
catering. Please RSVP by email to library at newnorcia.wa.edu.au or by post
to Sue Johnson, New Norcia Library, New Norcia, WA 6509. Receipts will
be provided on the day of the lecture. Tax invoices will be provided on
request. For further details, contact me by email, or by phone on 9654
8060 Wednesdays to Fridays.
