Subject: [WAIN] Professional Development Opportunity - Paul Reynolds
Advance Notice: Paul Reynolds
Paul Reynolds will be speaking at the State Library on Monday 22
October.
This is a professional development opportunity not to be missed!
Paul Reynolds
Paul Reynolds is an Auckland based commentator and thinker on the topics
of information access and cultural/techno change. He is the co-founder
and Joint Managing Director of McGovern Online, one of New Zealand's
original new media companies. McGovern Online has provided strategy,
design and development in the field of new media and Internet to clients
in New Zealand, Fiji and the UK since 1995. His role in the company
embraces what he calls "imagineering" web solutions, which put the user
at the centre of the on-line experience. Paul is a strong advocate for
the new information age - but is also equally clear that any information
society worth speaking about must have at its core a commitment to
equality of access and equity of opportunity.
Paul believes the public library network is a unique institution which
can play a key role in the new world of digital living, and he also
believes that local authorities have an equally pivotal role in the
development of strong communities. However, he also believes both
institutions need to re-examine their relationship, as well as create
new synergies of interest if both parties are to contribute effectively
to our emerging digital life.
In August, 2005, Paul was appointed to the New Zealand Government
Digital Strategy Advisory Group, http://www.digital-strategy.govt.nz He
also serves on the Capability Panel for REANNZ (Research and Education
Advanced Network New Zealand Ltd), and the new Zealand Advanced Network
KAREN (Kiwi Advanced Research and Information Network). www.reannz.co.nz
Paul is also in his second term on LIAC (the New Zealand Library and
Information Advisory Commission), which advises the Minister to the
National Library, The Rt. Hon Marian Hobbs. www.liac.org.nz
More detailed information about Paul's lecture will be provided soon.
+ There will not be a cost for the sessions. A number of your students
attended the Chris Batt lecture, so look forward to seeing more of them
at Paul's lecture. At this stage we are planning morning and afternoon
sessions, just need to confirm the details with Paul.
