Hello everyone

I have organised a visit to the State Library of WA for students in
IS101 (Introduction to Libraries) for next Tuesday morning, 22nd May .
Any Information Studies students interested in attending are welcome to
join us. However, places are strictly limited so get in quickly if you
want to attend. Send an email to g.pass at curtin.edu.au

The aim of the visit is to get a behind the scenes look at the State
Library. You will be able to trace the progress of library items from
ordering, acquisition, cataloguing, through to availability in the
collections. You will see how the public libraries area works as well
as the information services provided within the library. A highlight
will be a tour of the back rooms of the Battye Library of Western
Australian History - a fascinating environment.

There will be an opportunity to talk with staff from different areas,
and in particular chat with some of the Graduate Librarians recently
employed by the State Library. These are positions you might aspire to
so it would be good to get some "inside information" on what they do
and how they gained these jobs.

The details are:

Venue: State Library of WA
Address: Perth Cultural Centre Northbridge between Francis St and James
St Mall
Date: Tuesday 22nd May
Time: 9.20am for a 9.30am start. Finishing approx 11.30am
Meet: Near the main reception desk on the ground floor
Transport: You will need to make your own way there. Some students have
offered to take others back so you should be able to organise lifts
amongst yourselves. If anyone is stuck for a lift back to Curtin I
should be able to take 2-3 of you. First in first served!

For details on location, parking and access go to:
http://www.liswa.wa.gov.au/location.html

Note: you will need to leave bags in the lockers (you'll need $1 -
refundable). Handbags and note pads are OK on the visit.

Please let me know as soon as possible if you wish to attend. Send an
email to g.pass at curtin.edu.au - I will confirm acceptance.

Regards

Glenn
