You need to look for similar initiatives in your own state. This is an
ALIAWest initiative and some other states do have mentoring committees.
Check the ALIA Website under groups

Many thanks for this Matt.
I would STRONGLY RECOMMEND that as many students as possible attend this
meeting - the advice will be invaluable - especially if you will be
looking for a job in the near future.
NB: you MUST RSVP

May
Hi everyone,
We would like to extend an invitation to GuMPWA's next session - The
Winning Interview - to anybody that is, or would like to be, working in
the library and information industry.
We have organised a panel of three experienced recruiters from a variety
of sectors to answer your questions on how to shine in interviews.
Date: Tuesday, 1st May, 18:00 - 19:30.
Venue: UWA Medical and Dental Library, Seminar Room, Monash Avenue,
Nedlands. Student parking areas are free after 17:00.
Gold coin donation for refreshments.
Carol Newton-Smith is the Medical and Dental Librarian at the University
of Western Australia. She has years of experience in mentoring
graduates and has been on the board of directors for ALIA.
Judi Willmott is the Library Manager, City of Canning Public Libraries.
Judi has been a long-time advocate for recruiting new graduates into the
profession, and will bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the
panel.
Cindy Wilson is the Human Resources and Office Services Manager at DLA
Phillips Fox and be our representative for special libraries. Cindy is
not a librarian and will bring a different perspective on recruitment.
If you would like to attend, it is vital that you RSVP to either Linda
Papa at lindapapa at bigpond.com or me at matthias.liffers at gmail.com by
17:00 on Friday the 27th of April.
Regards,
Matthias Liffers
On behalf of the GuMPWA committee
