Thanks to your support, we presented 43,000 signatures to the Australian Government last week, supporting Aboriginal demands that the racist Stronger Futures legislation be withdrawn.<br>
<br>
We were joined by Aboriginal leaders from the Northern Territory, Church and community sector leaders, the National Congress of Australia's First Peoples, and leader of the Greens Senator Christine Milne.<br>
<br>
Thanks to the pressure we created, the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Human Rights has asked Indigenous Affairs Minister Jenny Macklin to subject the legislation to an independent human rights review.<br>
<br>
However, Minister Macklin is ignoring the Committee's demands and trying to get the legislation voted through the Senate regardless. Voting is due this Wednesday evening.<br>
<br>
An Avaaz petition has been created to put pressure on Minister Macklin to heed her own Parliament's human rights request.<br>
