June 21 is a National Day of Action Against the Northern Territory Intervention
and will mark one year since the Howard Government announced the NT
intervention. Far from improving child welfare, the intervention has created a
new wave of dispossession and is compounding social problems.<u1:p></u1:p></span></font><u2:p></u2:p><o:p></o:p></p>
<p style='margin-bottom:12.0pt'><font size=3 color=black face=Georgia><span
style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Georgia'>The <st1:city u3:st="on"><st1:place u3:st="on"><st1:City u7:st="on"><st1:place u7:st="on">Alliance</st1:place></st1:City></st1:place></st1:city>
for Indigenous Self Determination has been working for almost a year to help
the voices of indigenous people and communities resisting the Intervention in
the NT to be heard down here in the south. <u1:p></u1:p></span></font><u2:p></u2:p><o:p></o:p></p>
<p style='margin-bottom:12.0pt'><font size=3 color=black face=Georgia><span
style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Georgia'>The <st1:city u3:st="on"><st1:place u3:st="on"><st1:City u8:st="on"><st1:place u8:st="on">Melbourne</st1:place></st1:City></st1:place></st1:city>
rally on June 21 will hopefully demonstrate the strength of those voices. We
expect to see a great contribution to the thousands of people protesting
nationally. The rally will also be a place for people to gain knowledge about
the lived reality of the Intervention and how the resistance to it fits into
the historic Indigenous struggle for self determination, ongoing throughout
this continent.<br>

rolling out Howard’s intervention. He is continuing the genocidal policy
of the Stolen Generations and the Howard years.<br>

“We are back to ’flour, tea and tobacco days’, being forced
to work and jump through hoops for ration vouchers. Centrelink is not providing
proper services for remote communities so there has been a mass exodus of our
young people. My brothers have been forced into town to look for work.”<br>
<br>
Lyle Cooper: 'I thank you Prime Minister Rudd for your apology…(but) it's
an invasion all over again. We are being told where to shop, what to eat, how
to act and how to live'<u1:p></u1:p></span></font><u2:p></u2:p><o:p></o:p></p>
