Shortis is a former jockey who has experienced a severe head injury. Kerrin has
developed an audiovisual presentation regarding Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) from
a psychological perspective. She is keen to speak to health professionals about
what it is like to "look ok" but have an ABI, and about the high risk behaviours
engaged in to be "normal". <o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>

accident happened on the 18th of October 2000 at around 9am from a horse bolting
out of control…. I will be presenting a digital story about my hardship to
discover myself after my horrific accident. I will talk about my losses, my
changes, my denial and depression, and of course my acceptance, and the
differences between physical and mental injury.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>I will talk about how long I was in
rehabilitation and the benefits to being in rehab, how counsellors,
psychologists, and psychiatrists have helped me in the last 5 years – and how I
still have determination to continue.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes">
</SPAN>Writing about my experiences has been the biggest benefit to myself in
acceptance and understanding my behaviour.’<o:p></o:p></SPAN></STRONG></P>
