Invitation: Voices from the frontline of the NT climate crisis
Hi all (and apologies to the non-Victorians)

I'm getting along to this event at Coburg Town Hall on Saturday afternoon - very timely in view of the weather forecast for the next few days!

And if any of you have time and energy to help with publicizing the event, here are some suggestions for how to promote it in your networks:

  *
Texting people in your phone contact list with information about the meeting and links to the RSVP and petition, and asking them to come as well as forward it on to their contacts. (Messages include: do they know about fracking, how Vic has banned it because it is so dangerous, how big multinationals are starting fracking in the NT and the damage this will do to water, land and climate, how Traditional Owners and others in the NT are asking for our help in stopping it, and how the meeting is a unique opportunity to hear directly from them; also the petition)
  *
Have phone or face-to-face conversations with 5 people in your networks, with key asks being to RSVP for the event and sign the petition, as well as for them to approach 3-4 of their friends/family/workmates to ask them to attend/sign.
  *
Post on social media about why you personally care about stopping NT fracking and how great it will be to hear some Territorians (including Traditional Owners) talking about it, and tag 5 friends, with the same key asks
  *
Post a link to NT Vic petition in community Facebook groups and ask people to sign

Hope to see you there!

xHeather

DCAN is excited to invite you to a powerful event on Saturday 23rd November: Voices from the Frontline of the Climate Crisis: An urgent call to action from the NT<https://www.darebincan.org.au/r?u=N3I2PGswg-gX-nmcVgWJyq7tX0JQXwvyYrlUgyIyKeVB6m7RAxJ0vrnDRtZLKis_KOjl1yzKJBYJjq6kXBqQEw&e=30978181835eed04f787db94d369211d&utm_source=darebincan&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=melbourne_nt_roadshow_event&n=2>, starting at 2.30pm at Coburg Town Hall.

We are proud to be supporting this important event. We know there is no room for new fossil fuel projects if we want a safe and liveable planet. The estimated annual emissions from fracking, for example, are more than double the emissions from all cars in Australia. For over a decade, Traditional Owners and Territorians have led the fight against this destructive industry, but now Country, water, and our climate are at greater risk than ever.

DCAN has teamed up with the Environment Centre NT, Beyond Gas Network, the Australian Conservation Foundation and other local climate groups to support a group of Territorians to bring an urgent message down south: The Territory is under threat from gas expansion like never before.

Join us for a powerful event featuring NT Traditional Owners and Territorians who will share what these dangerous gas projects mean for their communities—and how we can stand in solidarity here in Victoria.

Click here to RSVP<https://www.darebincan.org.au/r?u=N3I2PGswg-gX-nmcVgWJyq7tX0JQXwvyYrlUgyIyKeVB6m7RAxJ0vrnDRtZLKis_KOjl1yzKJBYJjq6kXBqQEw&e=30978181835eed04f787db94d369211d&utm_source=darebincan&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=melbourne_nt_roadshow_event&n=3>

Why it matters: Much of the NT is predicted to be unliveable before the end of the century due to climate impacts, and the Federal Government is considering a $1.9 billion gas hub in Darwin, while failing to stop fracking in the Beetaloo Basin. Victorians banned fracking because we know the dangers—now it's time to support communities in the NT who are fighting to do the same.

Event details:

When: Saturday 23 November 2024, 2.30pm
