Can digital, clinical and community strategies work together

to support well-being and reduce relapse in psychosis? The EMPOWER trial

Guest Presenter: Associate Professor John Farhall

College of Community Psychologists Award of Distinction 2018

John has worked in public mental health for 40 years and at La Trobe University since 1992, and was a foundation member of the College of Community Psychologists. His work bridges community and clinical psychology, focusing on people living with psychotic disorders. His research spans working with families, evaluation of innovative services, coping with voices, and recovery-oriented digital interventions. He serves on the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) and was previously on the Board of Mind Australia.

EMPOWER is an Australia/UK collaboration blending a SmartPhone App with peer support and clinical mental health services to reduce the likelihood of relapse in people living with psychosis. It draws on multiple conceptualisations of the problem and the solution and holds promise for better meeting the needs of strapped service systems as well as consumers living with the risk of relapse.

Subject: Your Chance to be part of our Biggest Year for Australian Community Psychology

Hi Community Psych superstars,

2020 promises to be Australian community psychology's biggest year yet as Melbourne hosts the 8th International Conference of Community Psychology from 26 - 28 June (ink that into your diaries).

You have a chance to be at the heart of the action, as the Victorian APS Community Psychology Committee customises events leading up to and following on from that blockbuster. This year's big events included Dr Delwyn Goodrick's workshop on Advocacy Evaluation, Prof Isaac Prilleltensky's presentation on Mattering and forums on how community psychologists are responding to critical social issues such as #metoo and climate change. Next year will offer more thrills.

But you only have until this Friday 22nd to apply to join our committee.

Please apply for one of the 6 general committee positions here:
