Improving the scope of practice: Working with clients impacted by systems of discrimination, violence and oppression

There's still time to sign up for the APS Institute Webinar Series “Beyond diagnosis – what else matters to clients’ health and wellbeing?” This is a great opportunity to tap into some practice wisdom about how to factor the Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) into ALL our work. Tonight's webinar is the second in the series, and features Community Psychologist Briony Kercheval, and Counselling Psychologist Carmel O'Brien, author of 'Blame Changer: Understanding Domestic Violence'. With more than 40 years of practice experience between them, these standout presenters will apply an SDoH lens to their work with particular client groups experiencing violence and discrimination. Applications of a resource to assist mental health professionals to incorporate an SDoH approach into their practice will also be explored.

Briony's focus tonight is on how she contextualises her practice with transgender young people, and on the role of advocacy, training and education, consultation and engagement in supporting young transgender clients. Carmel will speak about how practitioners can best support and advocate for clients recovering from domestic violence or bullying.
