[Commpsych] Health related Budget Action and summary

Hi all,

I know for many in this list, there is likely still much trauma and shock in terms of the Budget's current and future ramifications: for our workplaces or potential future areas of work, the communities and individuals we care about and work with (particularly those experiencing inequities already). I thought it may be useful to share some summarized information on action and response relevant to Community Psychology and would love to hear from others.

AHPA's response plus commentary and template letter for you to write to your member or senator

Dear Members
The 2014 Federal Budget delivered a heavy handed suite of cuts and changes that have severely reduced preventive health and health promotion programs and undermined Medicare, Australia's universal health insurance system. The cuts to funding for many services and institutions will severely impact the health of Australians especially those who are most vulnerable and disadvantaged.
AHPA's Board and Branch Committees have responded in the following ways:
1.  A letter to the Prime Minister, cc'd to the Treasurer, the Minister for Health and Sport, and the Assistant Minister for Health expressing indignation and serious concern. 2. Prepared a commentary, The good, the bad and the very ugly: a bleak landscape for health promotion post #Budget2014 that will be posted on AHPA's website www.healthpromotion.org.au<http://techmail.technologymatters.com.au/t/r-l-xiykjjt-tyhhbltiy-t/> later today.
3.  A template letter for you as individual citizens to use to write to your Member of Parliament or Senator to express serious concern, outrage even, about the budget directions which threaten good health outcomes especially for those who are most vulnerable. Please feel free to make the letter your own by adapting or adding in particular areas of concern for you. By keeping to one page we have, for example, omitted commentary on reduced access to pensions and benefits which you may wish to add. Also feel free to use the information from AHPA's letter to the Prime Minister or commentary to members.
