Hi Community Psych list,
I wonder if you know someone who can help in the next two weeks, especially this
Sunday the first day.
Getup is in the process of developing a website which will connect flood victims
with available temporary accommodation, which should be up and running very
shortly. Because they realise that many of those who have lost or damaged homes
may not have access to the internet, they are setting up a call centre which
will allow people to access the service over the phone. They anticipate that a
portion of the callers may be experiencing emotional stress, and that call
centre staff (some of whom are professionally trained, others of whom are
volunteers) may need support dealing with this. They are hoping
that psychologists would be able to to be on hand within the centres, to deal
with any issues that emerge, to support call centre staff, lead team debriefs
etc.
Because of the urgency of the flooding crisis they are looking to launch the
website and the call centre this coming Sunday 16th January, and anticipate the
centres will need to be staffed for two weeks. The call centre is located in
Sydney CBD. They are still working on the details of the operation hours for the
call centres for the duration of the initiative. However, for the first day,
Sunday 16th January, the hours that they require volunteers is 9-5. Volunteers
would be helping out on the phones when necessary, as well as debriefing call
centre staff at the conclusion of the day.
If you are able to assist please contact Charlotte or Sara in the Getup office
on 02-9211-4400 or Charlotte on 0402 984 591
or via email

sara at getup.org.au
Thanks and I hope you're well wherever you are,
Craig
