Dear community psychology colleagues

This invitation has been issued to Victorian members of the College of Community Psychologists, but we're circulating it more widely in case folk in other states/regions would like to take up Peter's idea with their local colleagues.

Join us for a drug-free, community-based intervention designed to eliminate our anxiety about accumulating 10 peer consultation hours for the APS’s CPD requirements before November.

When: Saturday Mornings 9.15 am until 1.15pm on September 3, 10, 17, 24 and October 1. (You can come and go whenever you like during these times)

Where: The Hive Studios (home of Community Stars), 17 Kerr St, Fitzroy (between Brunswick St & Nicholson St, near Johnston St). Parking can be difficult, but the 112 & 96 trams are easy. For those who need to drive, there is parking within walking distance, but not much within a block or two.

How does it work?:

 • As people arrive they can form groups of 2 or 3 and hold a peer supervision session. The only condition is that the time spent on each participants’ work must be equally shared.

 • At the end of each hour, we’ll reconvene, and then form another supervision pair/small group. (You can negotiate to have small breaks within your group, but we’ll aim to keep the program rolling over each hour)

• People can come and go as they please (e.g., stay for 1 hour or the whole 4) and choose the dates that suit them.

• If they choose to stay for the whole 20 hours, they can acquire their 10 hours over the five weeks and obtain an additional 10 hours of active CPD (i.e. 20 of the 30 hours you need, including all of the mandatory bits).

• If you haven’t completed the whole 10 hours during the 5 sessions, you can arrange to hold additional sessions with your favourite peer supervisor at a more convenient time and location before the end of November.

• People can bring different issues to each supervisor or ask two or three different supervisors’ views on the same issue during the morning.

• It also gives people the opportunity to expand their community psych networks and live happily ever after (well, maybe that’s pushing it a bit, but it will probably save you more than $1000 in supervision fees). I know this is not an ideal way of doing supervision, but given everyone’s tight time constraints it might be an interesting method to trial to get us through this period. We can even use some of the time to develop a more ideal method.

RSVPs are essential (so that I know when people are expected and don’t have to keep answering the door during the sessions). If you are interested please send me your name and the times and dates that you’d like to attend. My contact details are below.

Kind regards,

Peter
