We received this survey request at APS today, and I think it's worth circulating amongst any of you working in housing, mental health or transcultural (culturally and linguistically diverse) service provider settings. The aim is to gain a baseline understanding of homelessness amongst people from a CALD background with a mental illness. Please feel free to complete the survey and/or circulate it as appropriate.

Heather

Subject: Fwd: IMPORTANT on-line survey on homelessness of CALD peoplew. Mental illness

Dear Colleagues

I am sending you this email and asking your support to complete and distribute to your networks encouraging them to complete this survey on line

Multicultural Mental Health Australia (MMHA) has partnered with the Victorian Transcultural Psychiatry Unit (VTPU) to conduct research on the extent of homelessness of people from a CALD background with mental illness. This project was initiated by MMHA and funded by the Department of Health and Ageing. A reference group of experts was set up including senior staff from national peak agencies for the homeless such as Homelessness Australia, Council to Homeless Persons, Mission Australia, Youth Accommodation Association and Psychiatric Disability Services of Victoria, alongside VTPU and MMHA.

The aim of this VERY IMPORTANT research is to gain a baseline understanding of homelessness amongst people from a CALD background with a mental illness. At present there is little research into this area and a pressing need for some data in order to identify needs and make recommendations to better service this group. This research has not been conducted before and it is important that we know what is the status of this group.

You are ideally placed, as a service provider in the field, to participate in this important project. Participation would require just one person in your organisation to fill in this survey using the user-friendly online tool Survey Monkey. This would take approximately 15-20 minutes. It may be helpful for a senior staff member to respond, in that they may have access to the relevant information. Please note that we will maintain confidentiality and all data will be de-identified.
Please click on the below link, and fill out the survey. Surveys close on Friday 1 October 2010:

If you are an organisation for the homeless, please click here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PRVHNCW

If you are a mental health organisation, please click here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/YXWZDRV

If you are a multicultural/ethno-specific organisation, please click here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PN2XKDX

When you reach the end you will see "Done" and be directed to the VTPU website.

Your input is invaluable and we thank you for your participation. Do not hesitate to contact the researchers (Brendon.MOSS at svhm.org.au or Madeleine.TEMPANY at svhm.org.au ) should you have any queries.

With many thanks,
