Serdar M. Değirmencioğlu, Ph.D.
Visiting Research Fellow
Victoria University School of Psychology (Footscray)
 

Born in 1966 in Ankara. Attended 2nd-3rd Grade in Komotini, Greece. Finished elementary and high school in Ankara in 1984. Entered Department of Psychology at Middle East Technical University in 1984 in Ankara. Enrolled in the life-span developmental psychology doctoral program at Wayne State University in Detroit, USA, in 1988. Studied adolescent friendship networks and substance use. Also took part in Teenage Pregnancy Project at Merrill-Palmer Institute. Completed his dissertation in 1995 and started a post-doctoral fellowship at the Institute for Policy Research, Northwestern University in Chicago, USA. Studied how early adolescent development is influenced by multiple contexts (i.e., family, friends, school and neighborhood) in a multidisciplinary setting.
