[Commpsych] FW: ACOSS Conference materials - and a plug for CP from the Acting PM?

I thought it worth passing on this material from the ACOSS Conference
last Thursday in Melbourne. Vic Uni /Community Psychology was well
represented with staff and students from Social Work, Community
Development/Public Advocacy and Psychology.

Julie Gillard mentions four projects in her address attached here, which
she gave in February, that was very similar to what she said the
Conference. Two of those projects, the Bethany Community Kitchens and
the Laverton Community Renewal, have involved community psychology
students; what's more, another project that was prominent at the
conference was the Coburg Solar City initative which is about to engage
one of our students via the Brotherhood of St Laurence.

So I think Community Psychology's time has come, with much of the new
government's language being couched in the very things we teach our
students - empowerment, social inclusion, program evaluation etc.
(Program evaluation was recently listed by APA as a growth area for
psychologists, but very few actually specialise in it as CPs do. (I'll
send you that link as well).

It's also worth mentioning that community and developmental psychologist
Ann Sanson is one of the only psychologists attending the 2020 Summit
next weekend. (The other is in Public Health, apropos recent postings
about cross-disciplinary connecttions)

Now if only the rest of the world knew how wonderful we are... sorry,
just getting carried away

Heather
