Dear Community College members and friends

Just a reminder and update about the Vic Section AGM on December 4th,
at Northcote Town Hall at 7pm. The meeting will also be a chance to talk
about some important issues facing the college (as outlined in the
issues paper on the college website
http://www.groups.psychology.org.au/ccom/news/ ) and have a say about
the motion being put to the national College AGM in Perth the following
week.

As well as catching up socially with great community minded people over
a delicious vegetarian banquet, following the AGM at 8pm you can hear
from our guest speaker, fresh from UK: Dr Caroline Warbrick on the topic
Taking a Community Psychology approach: Challenges for theory, research
and practice - see notice:
http://www.psychology.org.au/Events/EventView.aspx?ID=3006

Victorian College members, if you can't make next Tuesday's meeting
please take the time to fill in the attached survey and get it back to
Catherine before the 30 November (yes, this week!). We also encourage
you to read the motion which you would have already received from the
national executive, so that you can get any thoughts or proxy votes to
the chair before the AGM. It is important that you have a say in the
future of your college.

If you haven't seen it already, the motion that will be put to the
national AGM on December 13th in Fremantle is:

"Be it resolved that given the decline in membership and the diminishing
number of academic training programs available to its potential members,
the APS College of Community Psychologists directs its National
Executive to begin proceedings and processes to restructure the College
as an APS Interest Group as of September, 2008. In executing these
responsibilities due diligence will be put to the academic and
professional welfare of its current student members, and the
professional needs of its members."

If you are reading this from outside Victoria, or if you are not an APS
member, you can forward any comments about the future of community
psychology in Australia to the National Chair, Grace Pretty (
pretty at usq.edu.au <mailto:pretty at usq.edu.au> ) by Monday Dec 3rd, or to
the CommPsych list for public discussion.
