Good afternoon,

 

On behalf of the Longitudinal Study of Australia, I am very pleased to
announce that a number of leading researchers will be speaking at the
LSAC Conference, covering a wide range of themes:

 

Keynote speaker - Stephen Zubrick (Parenting quality and the
developmental status of young Australian children: Contexts and
pathways, co-authored with Ann Sanson, Jan Nicholson and Grant Smith)  

Keynote speaker - Lyndall Strazdins  (Effect of parents' work
arrangements on children - How jobs can be family friendly, co-authored
with Megan Shipley)

 

Bruce Bradbury:  Why do the children of young parents have poorer
outcomes?

David Hay: One child in 33 is a twin or higher multiple-using the LSAC
data to identify the needs of multiple birth families.

Diana Smart and Ann Sanson:  Do Australian children have more problems
than they did 20 years ago?

Eric Emerson and Gwynnyth Llewellyn: The mental health of Australian and
British mothers and fathers of young disabled children.

Harriet Hiscock, Louise Canterford and Melissa Wake: Natural history of
infant sleep problems: The contribution of parenting style and parent
mental health.

Ilan Katz and Gerry Redmond:  Why do rich children have better outcomes?
An analysis of the LSAC "K" cohort.

Linda Harrison:  The child care question: Is social-emotional
development at age 2-3 years affected by children's experience of
non-parental care?

Matthew Gray and Jennifer Baxter:  The financial consequences of
relationship breakdown and separation amongst families with young
children.

Melissa Wake, Jan Nicholson and Katherine Smith:  Do parenting styles of
mothers and fathers influence prevalence and progression of obesity from
the preschool to school years?

Michael Bittman and Jude Brown:  Hyper-parenting? How scheduled
activities affect children's language acquisition, schooling and mental
health.

 

PROGRAM

There will be two sessions running concurrently over the two days, with
32 presenters and a panel discussion on the second day.  The Conference
Program will be available and distributed shortly.

 

ACCOMMODATION

Just a reminder that there is a discounted room rate of $150 at the Oaks
Hotel for Conference attendees.  Alternatively, for the budget
conscious, there is the Oakford on Collins (182 Collins Street) at $119
