Children of lesbian and gay parents - what do they really need?

The Presenter


 

Professor Charlotte Patterson is a developmental psychologist, known
internationally for her research on the development of children being
raised in gay/lesbian families. She was among the first to conduct a
systematic investigation of preschool and elementary children born to
openly lesbian parents.  She is in Australia as a guest of the Institute
for Advanced Studies at LaTrobe University, and was a keynote speaker at
the recent Rainbow Families symposium at Melbourne University.

Abstract

Professor Patterson will present an overview of 25 years' research on
children who have grown up with lesbian and gay parents.  This research
debunks common myths that children need one mother and one father and
that children are somehow disadvantaged growing up in lesbian and gay
parented families. It presents the real outcomes for children in
families, bringing into focus the fundamental and critical contributors
to healthy child development. 

 

LIGHT LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED.  Staff, students and visitors most
welcome.
